JESUS STORIES SERIES (3 videos)

The Gospels are full of wonderful stories about Jesus…and stories Jesus told. These colorful, live-action videos for children bring to life Jesus’ teaching and healing and caring. Using humor and emotion, they provide a fresh approach to bible study. Through an ingenious combination of masks, mime, and the creative use of props, storyteller Doug Berky breathes new life into the gospel writers’ accounts of Jesus’ life and His parables.

OUR FRIENDS ON WOOSTER SQUARE

Twelve 15-minute video programs on three video cassettes for children. This series has all the fun and excitement children expect from television along with sound faith concepts. A whole community of muppet-like puppets was created for these programs. The children explore concepts through stories, song, scripture, and words. Excellent guides and print material accompany the cassettes.

PARABLES FROM NATURE

For children ages 2 to 8 years, there are six videos with three stories on each video. Each video is approximately 10 minutes. Uses animal tales in a contemporary approach to the stories Jesus told. Comes with suggestions for follow-up activities.

PLAYING FAIR series

This is a series of 4 videos to provide discussion starters about racism, respect and equality, for children 6 to 12 years. (14 minutes each)

CAROL’S MIRROR Carol wants to play the lead in the school’s production of SNOW WHITE. Trouble is, Carol isn’t white. After a lively debate, Carol and her classmates find a solution.

HEY, KELLY! Kelly is called a racist name by Robert. The principal gives them a task to do during detention. While working together they find out they have something in common.

MELA’S LUNCH The story of the unsteady beginnings of a friendship between Mela, a recent emigrant from India, and her classmate Allison.

WALKER About a young Aboriginal foster child whose only playmate is his dog. Jamie is a lonely white boy who is afraid of dogs and has some strange ideas about Aboriginal people. Together, they find friendship and understanding.

OXFORD Bible series is 10 videos of 30 minutes each. The illustrated stories include original text with drawings. Each video contains an average of five different stories. The videos are:

SWIM TEAM’S SPLASH

Presents a real-life situation with a moral dilemma that involves bullying. At the end of the presentation, the situation is reviewed, and questions for group discussion are given. (9 minutes)

CINDERELLA AND ME: Being excluded

For ages 2 - 8 years, this is a story enacted using puppets and real people. In this story classmates decide that Audrey can’t play the part of Cinderella because she doesn’t "look" the part. . (14 minutes)

UNLEARNING INDIAN STEREOTYPES

For ages 6 to adult, an adaptation of a filmstrip about common stereotypes about Native peoples as portrayed in books, films, etc. (14 minutes)

LIVING GOD’S WAY

This is an adaptation of six Bible stories for children from Ralph Milton’s Living God’s Way. Each story is approximately 5 minutes long.

IT’S ALL ABOUT COMMUNITY

Produced for children, this stewardship resource encourages viewers to see themselves as part of a community and that each person has something different and special to add to that community. (Storyteller / puppet)

FOLKTALES OF PEACE

This is a collection of three stories for use with children as young as 4 years old up to 12 years old. Each of the stories has a message about peace. One story (Strength) is a Limba tale from West Africa, one (Argument Sticks) an Iroquois story from North America, and one (Two Foxes) an Appalachian tale from eastern United States. All are from the book, 'Peace Tales: World Folktales to Talk About', by Margaret Read MacDonald.

FOLKTALES OF PEACE II

This is a second collection of three more stories about peace for use with children from 4 to 12 years old. One is a Welsh tale, 'Slops'; one is an Ndebele tale from Zimbabwe, 'A Blind Man Catches a Bird'; and the third is from the Marshall Islands in the Pacific 'The War Between the Sandpipers and the Whales'. FREE INDEED

Video to use with youth and adults. Challenges viewers and raises awareness about the privileges that come with being white in North America. It encourages exploration of old assumptions and for ways to break down racism. (25 minutes)

The lyrics and images of this music video (by the British group Soul II Soul) aim to provoke young people to think about the dangers of hate and intolerance. (4 minutes)

TEENS AGAINST VIOLENCE: TAKING CHARGE

The events take place in Toronto high schools where young activists engage their peers in discussion and role-plays about sexual harassment, homophobia, racism and urban violence. (26 minutes)

TALK TO ME

A segmented video, accompanied by a user guide. Secondary school students from B.C. discuss a variety of issues such as racism, immigration, gender inequality, class and homophobia. (45 minutes)

STANDING TALL

Seven young people share how they heard the news when a loved one died, what helped and how they moved on. The book, Flowers for the Ones You’ve Known - Unedited Letters from Bereaved Teens, comes with the video. (20 minutes)

BACK ALLEY BUDDIES

Young high school students illustrate how high expectations can be derailed by negative pressure. Very good for discussion of peer pressure. (14 minutes)
