A PLACE TO PRAY: CONVERSATIONS ON THE LORD’S PRAYER: (25-27 mins per program)

Some of us feel our prayers aren’t going anywhere and that we never experience the presence of God. But can the too-familiar phrases of the Lord’s Prayer help? Roberta Bondi, teacher, writer, and student of the ancient church, thinks so and shares what the beloved phrases mean to her and how they’ve changed her life. In this series, she talks about each of the phrases and with four others discusses a range of personal and social issues, all connected to the Lord’s Prayer. (Seven programs on three videotapes.)
SISTER KAY (A National Film Board film, 48 mins)
A story of courage and vision, Sister Kay profiles a remarkable individual who became one of the most influential women in the Catholic Church. The film travels from the Canadian Prairies to the Vatican, to the centre of the Middle East conflict in Jerusalem. Sister Kay emerges as an inspiring leader who promotes reconciliation among people of all faiths. She was instrumental in ending the Church’s policy of trying to convert Jews to Christianity.
FAITHFUL EARTHKEEPING: CHURCH AS A CREATION AWARENESS CENTER (90 min)

A 3-part video series designed to help congregations learn about the issues related to the care of God's creation. Part 1 provides a biblical and theological foundation. Part 2 describes seven provisions and seven degradations of creation. Part 3 challenges congregations to take action as earth keepers in their communities.
ENDING OCCUPATION: VOICES FOR A JUST PEACE (21 mins)
The Palestinian-Israeli conflict is one of the most sensitive, emotive, and tragic conflicts shaking the world today. In this video, local Christian and other religious leaders, and Palestinian and Israeli human rights activists outline the root causes of violence in the region and the opportunities for a just peace. This video is an invitation to all WCC member churches and ecumenical partners to join the ecumenical campaign to End the illegal occupation of Palestine: Support a just peace in the Middle East, launched by the WCC Central Committee in September 2002.
ROMANCING THE ODDS: PROBLEM GAMBLING (39:56 mins)
This video, produced by the Nova Scotia Department of Health, deals with people affected by problem gambling and tries to place us inside the gambler's head. It helps us to understand problem gambling, and the irrational drives and feelings that go with it. You will learn about the suffering of gamblers (and those around them) as they try to regain their dignity, their lives and their families. The video provides hope! Problem gambling is definitely treatable - the video shows how the gamblers can change, and overcome their problems.

CHILDREN AND NATURE (27 minutes. Closed captioned; for adults)
Dr. Jane Goodall believes it is essential that parents and other mentors of children guide them to make meaningful connections with the natural world. In this video Dr. Goodall shares some of the ways this is happening. Joining her are world-renowned marine biologist Dr. Sylvia Earle, naturalist and children's guide Lee Cole, and Jeff Rutherford, director of the Marine Research Institute. Narrated by Peter Coyote, with music by Paul Lloyd Warner.

THE LIVING LAND (27 minutes)
Over many years, our methods of growing food have become ever more mechanized and complex. At the same time, we've lost millions of acres of good soil to pollution, erosion, and an ever-growing population. But there is a new awareness of the need to change our perceptions about how we grow our food and how we treat the land. Four individuals on the frontier of this effort—John Jeavons, Wes Jackson, restaurateur Alice Waters, and organic farmer Mas Masumoto—share their insights in this moving video narrated by Peter Coyote. WATER FOR PEOPLE AND NATURE (11 mins)

Who’s after our water? Faced with the relentless push by the world’s largest water companies and organizations like the WB and the IMF, many activists from around the world began to see that they needed a forum where they could exchange information and strategies to fight the globalization of the earth’s water. Organized by the Council of Canadians’ Blue Planet Project, 1000 experts and activists from over 40 countries gathered in Vancouver, BC in 2001, and …committed to empowering communities to demand that the earth’s water be protected as part of our global commons.

CONFLICT IN THE CHURCH

This video offers alternative ways to view church conflict, which could help your church, resolve present or future conflict.
Part I, Division or Diversity (10 minutes), shows how conflict can be used to strengthen a body of believers through examples from scripture, church history and contemporary situations. It offers constructive congregational conflict management skills.
Part II, Living with Conflict (30 minutes), features three hypothetical congregations wrestling with process and power issues as they address a typical conflict in their midst.

The video emphasizes the importance of emotional and spiritual perspective in dealing with conflict. Viewers are invited to analyze what they see in the dramas and explore the provocative questions in the discussion guide. PRESSURE POINT: CREATIVE CONFLICT IN THE CHURCH
This resource was produced on a local TV Station in Vancouver in 1988. Kim McMillan, a human relations consultant from Salmon Arm, BC, explains the PINCH theory for dealing with conflict in organizations like the church. Although this resource is dated, the content is still helpful.

Hear Our Voices: First Nations of Canada Speak (60 mins)
This four-part series was commissioned by representatives from the All Native Circle Conference, British Columbia Native Ministries Council, and Native ministries of the United Church of Canada in southern Ontario. It explores the social, political, and cultural rights issues of First Nations for the education of non-Native members of the church so the Natives and non-Natives of Canada can walk together.
East Timor: Birth of a Nation (25 mins.)
(A production of the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace)
From the video jacket: "After 500 years of foreign rule, first by Portugal, then by Japan during WWII, and then by Indonesia for the past 25 years, finally the East Timorese can proudly say they have a constitution: they have a national parliament: they have a government, diplomatic relations with other countries; they can engage in normal trade with the rest of the world, and be part of the international community. For a small nation that not too many people believed could be free, a nation that endured years of darkness, suffering and humiliation, it is a tremendous, tremendous joy…" Jose Ramos Horta, Minister of foreign Affairs., East Timor, and Nobel Peace Prize Co-Laureate (1996).
No Distance Between Us (48 mins)
This video, produced through the Progressive Muslim Association of Ontario, the Durham School Board, and Durham Police Force explores issues and stereotypes that we are confronted with in our everyday lives. A group consisting of Christians and Muslims, lay and clerics, police and teachers, as well as youth, guide us through sections on aspects of Islam including jihad, the role of women; racism and societal responses.
Basta - Building a New Argentina (28 mins)
In Spanish, "basta" means "enough". And that's what Argentineans are saying about economic policies of globalization that have brought their country to collapse. Half the country now lives below the poverty line. But churches and partners aren't sitting still. They're challenging the system and creating new ways forward. There are stories of hope and resistance from the southern-most tip of our hemisphere, where churches and communities are showing by doing that a more just and inclusive world is possible.
From Tears to Hope: Another view of life in Rwanda (13 mins)

"The Rwandan genocide that began in April 1994 was one of the 20th century’s worst examples of mass murder. …Most of those who survived are women; the vast majority are widows. Their lives today are an unusual blend of tears, at having lost their loved ones, and hope, as they rebuild their communities and their country. Devastated by years of war, Rwanda is still in a very fragile state. It is the women…who must shoulder the burden of rebuilding Rwandan society. …Their raw courage and determination is an inspiration to men and women everywhere."

An ecumenical adult education program for congregations
Four video segments- can support a four, six, eight or twelve week teaching and discussion programme.
• Making Money – this segment defines money and asks why money is such a taboo subject in our culture. Participants are asked to define money for themselves and look at how the subject of money has functioned as a taboo in their own lives.
• Know Your Money – each of us has a unique and personal relationship to money. This segment explores the various "money styles" each of us may have experienced and how money impacts us at the deepest personal level. It asks the question, "How much is enough?"
• Making Peace with Money – What does the Bible say about money? This segment looks at the God of abundance and how our personal spiritual values are expressed in our attitudes towards and our use of money.
• Balancing Life’s Ledger – How do we get a grip, or balance, on our own personal relationship to money? What does God really require of us and what does the church want or need from us financially? In this segment stewardship is defined and discussed.

People can view the same situation in very different ways. It all depends on our context: our unique experience and perspective determines how we understand our world. Context also affects how we interpret the Gospel, both as a church and as individuals. This year at Lent, Spirit Connection invites four Christians, from Africa, Asia, Latin America and Canada's First Nations, to share how their personal stories and theologies have been shaped by their cultures. This series of four 30-minute interviews explores how theology in a modern context makes the Gospel a dynamic and living presence. The series features the following: Wesley Mabuza, Nestor Medina, Wenh-In Ng, and Alf Dumont.

The Spirit Connection crew was given rare access to the sites and the people caught in the repeating saga of upheaval caused by gold's allure. Mining operations in the Philippines have caused immense destruction to both the environment and to a way of life essential to the indigenous people.
Part 1 contains interviews with Bern Jagunos, Area Secretary for East Asia, United Church and Marie Halao-Enriguez, Secretary General for Kapapatan, provide and updated picture of the situation.
Part 2 contains an interview with Joan Kuyek of Mining Watch, and discusses the affects of mining on development, both in the Philippines and in other parts of the world.
Dare to Change: Changing Demographics and the Church (56 mins)
Shifts in demographics, cultural changes, and generational differences all effect how the church carries out its mission as an institution. There is Hope – GC38 Theme Video (120 mins)
Selected moments of the daily worship and theme presentations, "There is Hope", woven together and presented for discussion groups or for individual reflection. Well-known United Church educator and author of Soul Maps, Mardi Tindal, helps us reflect on and integrate how the gift of hope deepens in us and in the life of our world. The five theme presentations focus on particular practices of hope. The desire is that the work done by commissioners at the 38th General Council will continue into meetings of every Conference, presbytery/district, and pastoral charge, extending the examination of this theme throughout the United Church. Conversational in tone, the series features persons from the Christian, Jewish and Buddhist traditions. There are 4 training videos, each about 22 minutes in length that cover a wide range of topics, from boundaries, power and vulnerability, dating, friendships, transference, hugging and touch, personal needs and self care. The series is designed for use by clergy groups, M&P committees, theological schools. ...essentially with any group that is offering leadership within the church. A facilitator's guide included.
