Tucked into the south west corner of New Brunswick is Saint John Presbytery which at one time included, as a Presbyterian grouping, a large part of the province.

Twenty Pastoral Charges make up the present day Presbytery group, but in 1886 there were 43 of what were called "ecclesiastical parishes".

Work under the Methodist flag started in Saint John in 1791, and these beginnings are associated with the work of Abraham John Bishop, who also travelled to Fredericton and encouraged Duncan Blair and his work there. Bishop Black is known to have preached in Saint John.
