A Message from Rev. Linda Yates about "The Story of Three Worlds"
I have always believed that ministers, like physicians, if they can not always do good should at least do no harm. It is the number one prescription of the Hippocratic Oath.
Yesterday I used the "Three Worlds" resource for the children's story. My rationale was that soon we would be talking about Jesus' death and it would be helpful to talk with the children about death and dying.
I did not realize how harmful and hurtful the story is for children who are adopted, particularly children of international adoptions who are always dealing with the reality of public recognition of their status as adopted children.
Please use the resource very carefully as the language used can be hurtful for children who are fostered or adopted or for couples who have struggled with fertility issues.
~ Rev. Linda Yates

This four-page resource contains a story and pictures for use in funerals where children are mourners or it may be used as a resource for parents/grandparents who want to have a conversation with children about death and dying.
